TORONTO (November 5, 2008)-Nike Golf athlete Stephen Ames heads into the final event of the 2008 PGA Tour season with confidence as defending champion and armed with his new VR Forged TW Blades.
The Calgary resident says he's going into the 2007 Children's Miracle Network Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Florida feeling good about all part of his game. "Everything seems to fit right now-putting, driving and ball-striking."
Ames is especially pleased with his new VR Forged TW Blades, which he put in his bag at the Valero Texas Open and also played in Las Vegas."They're great. They make it easier to work the ball, but the biggest thing is the feedback. I can tell the quality of the strike immediately.
"I'm also hitting the VR blades farther. The ball seems to come off the face better, making them more effective in the wind," said Ames, whose other PGA Tour titles include the 2006 PLAYERS Championship and the 2004 Cialis Western Open.
The VR Forged TW Blades feature a more traditional muscle back design that include a conspicuous and recognizable "TW" mark. Made of 1025 Forged Carbon Steel with a CNC milled face, the VR Forged TW Blades differentiate from Nike's original Blades with a more modified backpad and a slightly thicker toe.
Ames won the 2007 Children's Miracle Network Classic by firing a final round 68 for a 17-under total to edge Tim Clark by a stroke. Ames said the victory validated the work he had done all year rebuilding his swing with his coach Sean Foley.
"In the first week that we worked together, I could see a positive difference, but I had to learn to play with the changes, and it all came together--including the putter--at last year's event," said Ames, who is wearing Nike's new Air Zoom Elite II shoes.
The lower profile of the Air Zoom Elite II with Nike's Power Platform sole puts the foot closer to the ground, and a caged lateral support system provides a more stable platform for better control and power throughout the swing.
In the last three years, Nike Golf has led the PGA Tour in iron wins and with the early success of the VR irons, this momentum promises to continue.
To date, seven Nike Golf athletes have won 11 PGA Tour events in 2008.
