Nike Golf athlete Carl Pettersson wins 2010 RBC Canadian Open

TORONTO (July 26, 2010)--After making the cut by a stroke, Nike Golf's Carl Pettersson went  lower on the weekend than any player in the history of the RBC Canadian Open, firing a 60 on Saturday and coming from behind Sunday for the victory.

Pettersson captured his fourth PGA Tour win--and Nike Golf's sixth global win in 2010--by firing a final-round 67 for a one-stroke victory over Dean Wilson at St. George's Golf & Country Club in Toronto. His final two rounds of 60 and 67 were the lowest in the tournament's history.

The 32-year-old Swede fired one of the greatest rounds of the season Saturday with a tournament-record 60, hitting every fairway with his VR Tour driver and 78 per cent of greens with his Pro Combo 4-iron, and VR Split Cavity irons (5-PW). Pettersson hit 73.1 per cent of his fairways for the event to T9.

"I still can't believe I won the tournament," said Pettersson who fired six birdies Sunday. "I know it's difficult to shoot another low one after a round like that, so I was just trying to downplay it. I just tried to stay calm and (said), `Whatever happens today, happens.'"

On Sunday, Pettersson was six shots back after seven holes and four back with seven to play. Pettersson made a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-3 13th to pull within one, then took the lead with a 25-footer from the fringe on the 480-yard, par-4 14th. Pettersson pulled away on the par-5 15th with his third straight birdie and fourth in five holes, hitting a wedge to four feet.

Pettersson earned US$918,000 for his first win since the 2008 Wyndham Championship. He also won the 2005 Chrysler Championship and 2006 Memorial.

Nike Golf athlete Trevor Immelman, the 2008 Masters Champion, continued his successful comeback from a nagging wrist injury to finish T13--his best of the season--while David Duval was T17.
