Nike Staff Players Storm out of the Gate Nike Golf could not have scripted a better start for its Tour
Staff players in 2008. The Swoosh has once again been dominant on the PGA Tour this season, already capturing four titles along with several other high finishes. As usual, Tiger Woods has led the charge. Heading towards the Masters, the world’s No. 1 player has been playing outstanding golf, leading many pundits to argue he could win the Grand Slam in 2008. Early in the season, Tiger continued his domination of the golf world, extending a brilliant streak that included five straight PGA Tour victories, and seven worldwide, dating back to last fall. He got things started on the PGA Tour in 2008 by capturing the Buick Invitational for his 62nd career win (tying him with Arnold Palmer). Tiger followed with an incredible performance at the WGC-Accenture Match Play where he defeated fellow Nike Golf Staff member Stewart Cink in the 36-hole final. When Tiger snuck in a bending 21-footer on the 72nd hole to capture the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, his already considerable legend grew as he tied Ben Hogan with 64 wins to move to third on the career victories list. Woods’s fellow Nike Golf Tour Staff members have also had auspicious starts. K.J. Choi won the season-opening Sony Open in Hawaii for his seventh Tour title. While he hasn’t found the winner’s circle yet this season, Cink has played well, finishing third at Buick, facing Tiger in the finals of the Accenture Match Play, and finishing runner-up at the PODS Invitational. Stephen Ames has also posted some solid finishes. The Canadian was outright third at Mercedes then followed that up a week later with a T-10 finish at the Sony. |
